After the storm passed, the real work began. The soaked carpets and swollen baseboards filled the house with a heavy, damp smell. Every fan we owned was pointed at the warped floorboards, trying to chase the moisture away before the mold could move in. It was a slow, tedious process of pulling up wet padding, propping up furniture on blocks, and wiping down walls over and over, just hoping for the wood to dry straight and the air to finally feel clean again.
