이와 같은 소식이 전해진 잠시 뒤 비트코인(Bitcoin)은 전고점 대비 40% 이상 폭락한 8만 달러 선까지 추락했었다. 중앙정부 차원에서 이같은 입장을 밝히자 내몽고 자치구는 곧바로 관내 비트코인 채굴회사를 단속할 것이라고 밝혀졌습니다. 다만 신장은 아직 감감무소식이다.
알트코인 채굴이 신장의 해외총생산(GDP)에서 차지하는 비중이 무시하는게 불가능한 수준이기 때문이다. 신장지역의 GDP는 약 2120억 달러다. 그중 가상화폐 채굴이 1.9%를 차지한다. 특이하게 작년 신장 GDP 성장의 21%가 암호화폐 채굴 등 하이테크(첨초장기술) 사업에서 비롯됐다.
